He made a handful of levels for Doom and Quake, and played them with friends from Columbine and people he met on the internet. He was proud of his levels and published them on his website connected to his AOL screen name. His friends said he was funny and smart, but he could get intense when he was angry.

Eric was in the same video production class as Dylan, and they made home videos together with some of their friends and classmates.

Eric loved animals. He was always worried about his little yorkie named Sparky, who was prone to having seizures. He also liked cats, and they liked him, too. His friend, Alyssa Sechler, said that her cat really loved Eric and they had a little bond. Alyssa also said that Eric would always greet her with a big hug, although he lacked self-confidence and felt inferior to other guys.

Like his friend, Dylan, Eric struggled with depression and feelings of unworthiness, especially at school where the jocks would constantly make fun of him and treat him poorly.

How he died

According to the official story, Eric died of a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the mouth, in the library, next to Dylan.

Eric Harris’ Funeral

Eric didn’t have a funeral and if he had a private memorial service, those details have never been made public. According to the book Homegrown by Jeffrey Toobin, Eric was cremated and his ashes were stored in an evidence locker under the care of private investigator Ellis Armistead, who was hired by the Harris family.

According to Toobin, on June 11, 2001, Armistead placed the cremains of Timothy McVeigh into a locker next to the cremains of Eric Harris.
